NSBE-AE Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Alumni Extension is to support NSBE in a way that:
- Develops and enhances NSBE programs.
- Increases technical awareness.
- Encourages scholastic achievement, and
- Stimulates enthusiasm in the Black engineering community in order to promote technical expertise, professionalism, and fellowship among Black engineers.
NSBE-AE Objectives
- Function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black engineers.
- Encourage and advise minority youth in their pursuit of an engineering career.
- Stimulate and develop student interest in the various engineering disciplines.
- Strive to increase the number of black student studying engineering at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Develop the technical and professional skills of its members.
- Encourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and to obtain/maintain professional engineering certification.
- Promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for Blacks and other minorities in the profession.
- To institute a high quality leadership development process that will enable NSBE pre-college, college and professional members to obtain the shared values and essential skills needed to address the challenges facing them.
- To develop quality communication mechanisms that enable NSBE alumni to share the Alumni Vision.
- To offer rewarding experience for current and potential members through opportunities to contribute toward the NSBE missions.
- To improve college recruitment, retention, graduation, an ultimate success as professional engineers by establishing strategic alliances among people of African descent.
- To stimulate technology transfer among NSBE members, empowering them to excel as engineers, scientists, business leaders and educators.
